What's inside: 12 questions
Every question below comes with the template, in this order. After you copy it, you can reword, reorder or remove any of them.
- What is the main reason you want to improve your English right now?A deadline - a visa, a university place or a score I have to hit · My job: meetings, emails and presentations in English · I want to talk to people without freezing · No single reason - I just want to be better at English overall
- How much time can you realistically give English each week?Under 2 hours - it has to fit around everything else · 2 to 4 hours · 5 to 8 hours · More than 10 hours - I can clear the decks for a while
- When do you need to see results?Within a month or two - there is a hard date · Within about six months · This year, roughly · No deadline - this is a long-term thing
- How do you feel about learning in a group?I learn best with other people around - it keeps me going · Fine, as long as the group stays small · I would rather have the teacher's full attention · Groups make me too self-conscious to speak
- What is stopping you most at the moment?I know the grammar but I cannot produce it fast enough out loud · I can chat, but my vocabulary and writing are basic · I need specific formats - reports, negotiations, presentations · My English is fine but I keep missing the score I need
- What does a good lesson look like to you?Structured, with a syllabus and visible progress · Drills, past papers and feedback on my answers · Mostly talking, with corrections along the way · Built entirely around my own situation and materials
- Who is paying, and how does that shape the decision?Me, and budget matters · Me, and I would rather pay more to go faster · My employer · Me, as an investment tied to a specific goal
- How much do you need to write in English?Almost never · Messages and short emails · Reports, proposals and formal emails, regularly · Essays that will be marked and scored
- You have a free evening and decide to spend it on English. What do you actually do?Join a conversation group · Work through the next unit of a course book · Sit a practice test and mark it · Rehearse a presentation I actually have to give
- How flexible is your schedule?Same time every week, no problem · It changes constantly - I need to book lesson by lesson · I could take time off entirely for a short period · Evenings and weekends only
- What happened the last time you tried to study English? There was no last time - this is the first serious attempt · I studied alone and lost momentum · I took a course and it moved too slowly for me · I got close to my target score and stalled there
- Which of these sounds most like you?I need a qualification to unlock the next step · I need English to do my job better · I want to stop avoiding conversations · I want to get properly fluent and I am willing to go all in
The 6 possible results
Each respondent is matched to one of these result types and sees its description on their result page.
Intensive Immersion Course
You are the rare student who can trade time for speed - and you should. An intensive course means 15 to 25 hours a week over a few weeks, rather than two hours a week for a year. Nothing else compresses progress the same way.
Exam Preparation Course
You do not need more English. You need the band, the score or the certificate. That is a different course from general improvement, and mixing the two is why capable speakers keep missing their target. Why this fits you.
Business English Course
Your English is being judged at work, not in a classroom. The gap is rarely grammar - it is the specific formats, the register, and the confidence to interrupt in a meeting where everyone is faster than you. Why this fits you.
One-to-One Lessons
You want the lesson built around you, not around a class of twelve. One-to-one is the most expensive option per hour and, for the right student, the cheapest per unit of progress. Why this fits you.
Conversation Practice
You do not have a knowledge problem. You have a production problem. You know more English than you can get out of your mouth in real time, and no amount of extra grammar will close that gap - only speaking will. Why this fits you.
General English Course
You want to be better at English across the board, and that is a perfectly good reason. General English is the default for a reason: it moves all four skills at once and gives you a structure to keep showing up for. Why this fits you.
How scoring works
There are no right or wrong answers. Each option votes for one or more result types, and the type with the most votes becomes the respondent's result.
